Acne Remedies
Acne Remedies
Eric Black just discovered his first zit before heading to his Spanish
class. Imagine his chagrine as he thought everyone was staring at
him. Fortunately for Eric there are good remedies available for
his acne.
Acne can hit you at the worst time, throwing zits your way without
regard to race or gender. The greatest population that {suffer|suffers|
from acne, though, are young adults and teens. It is estimated that
upwards of 85% of people who fall within this group are afflicted
with acne and of those 21% will suffer from extended scarring that
will range from very little to severe.
Those 25 and over, though, are not immune from acne. The American
Dermatologist Association reports that 20% of all adults have active
acne lesions. This means that the fact that 60 million American
teens and adults have active acne and 20 million of them have acne
that is extensive enough to cause scarring. Surprisingly, only about
10% of acne sufferers will go for medical advice, but this is partly
due to the way people look down on those with acne.
There is reason to hope, though, for those afflicted by acne. On
learning what causes acne, what works and the things that don't
help and how to prevent acne, you can take those steps to get skin
that is clear and glowing.
What Causes Acne?
While acne is not contagious, there are several factors that do
contribute to a case of getting acne lesions. To make it simple,
acne is caused when the sebaceous glands produce excess oil. Other
causes might include:
* An inherited tendency towards acne or genetics * Physical irritation
* Stress and anxiety * Hormones and hormone imbalances * Over washing
the skin * Humidity * Poor cleansing of the skin * Cosmetics that
are oil based
Don?t Waste your Time (or Money)
While some acne remedies work, many won't. When selecting an over
the counter remedy, be on your guard. Many of the acne remedies
on the shelves today have harsh components that can really dry out
your skin, and can even make your acne worse. Choose your acne products
with care and look for products that are easy on your skin.
What Really Works
Four things really do work for acne. Together they pack a powerful
punch to make acne a former problem.
* Healthy diet * Water * Adequate sleep * Proper cleansing
To treat existing acne, use natural products like tea tree oil
which has strong antiseptic effects and is quite effective. Witch
hazel is an effective toner and it can give you a healthy glow.
Mint is a good spot treatment, especially for cystic acne. It has
properties that cool and sooth the skin while killing bacteria in
the process.
A good cleansing and firming mask that you can make yourself is
an egg white and corn starch mask. Make a paste with the egg white
and corn starch. Apply to your clean skin and allow to dry. Remove
it after it dries with a wet washcloth and rinse well. You will
end up with great skin.
An Ounce of Prevention?
Prevention will definitely help you avoid acne. The best way to
avoid acne is to take care of yourself. A simple, low fat diet that
includes a good variety of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables
will help keep you acne free. Dark green leafy vegetables, like
spinach, are great acne fighters. You should also drink lots of
water to keep your body hydrated. A good night's sleep is another
easy beauty secret. Doctors recommend approximately seven hours
of sleep a night.
One final thing, proper cleansing of your skin is vital for keeping
it clear. You should clean your skin at least once a day. If you
wear cosmetics, make sure that you remove it each night before bed.
When washing your skin, use a cleanser that is gentle and make sure
that the water is not too hot. Don?t over cleanse or scrub because
that can make your acne worse. Rinse well and blot dry with a clean
towel. When you work to prevent acne, you won?t have to worry about
any scarring from it.
